Walt Disney Animation Studios is a renowned animation studio responsible for creating many beloved animated films. This internship program is based in their Burbank, California studios.
Job Description: Visual Development Internship
This 12-week internship (May-August 2025) offers an immersive experience into the world of visual development in animation. Interns will gain hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced artists and production leaders within the Art department.
Responsibilities: The internship will provide a comprehensive look at the visual development process, including:
• Working on projects that contribute to the studio’s film productions.
• Participating in educational seminars focused on animation craft and filmmaking.
• Completing individual and collaborative projects.
• Learning from mentors within the Art department.
Job Duties: Visual Development Artists at Disney Animation Studios are responsible for:
• Designing characters, environments, costumes, and creating overall visual concepts.
• Developing visual elements that convey mood, atmosphere, and staging within a story.
• Providing visual inspiration for projects in development.
• Illustrating visual potential and excitement through drawings and paintings.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must be enrolled in a post-high school educational program (Community College, College, University, Trade, Online School, or equivalent) and returning to the program for at least one semester after the internship.
• Portfolio: A website and/or uploaded PDF portfolio is required. The portfolio must demonstrate:
• Character and/or environmental designs in various styles, with clear personality, storytelling, and appeal.
• A wide range of techniques, from classical to stylized, with strong composition, color theory, and narrative (preferably showing characters interacting within environments).
• Life drawings and sketches (a plus).
• Full availability for the entire 12-week program (May-August 2025).
Compensation:
• Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour.
