Utility Locator (Field Technician) – Stake Center Locating
Starting Pay: $20.00 per hour
About the Job
Stake Center Locating is seeking motivated individuals for entry-level Utility Locator (Field Technician) positions. This role is crucial for promoting damage prevention in communities by accurately locating underground utilities, troubleshooting, and marking their positions on the ground using paint and flags.
We provide 100% paid on-the-job training to equip you with all the necessary skills. What we look for are individuals who enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions, prefer independent work, and possess strong problem-solving abilities with speed and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities (Training Provided)
As a Utility Locator, you will be trained to:
- Prioritize and practice Safety First! in all operations.
- Utilize a laptop computer for receiving, documenting, and processing locate tickets and managing email correspondence.
- Interpret maps and blueprints to determine the most effective method and sequence for utility locating.
- Operate provided locate equipment and technology to accurately identify and mark underground utilities.
- Maintain effective communication with peers, managers, and homeowners.
Qualifications
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Physical ability to walk up to 5 miles per day, 2-3 times a week.
- Physical ability to carry up to 5 lbs of electronic locating equipment for extended periods of time, lift objects up to 25 lbs, or lift in excess of 75 lbs with tool aids.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background and drug screening.
Schedule
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include some evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, based on ticket/production load.
- Participation in scheduled on-call shift rotation to respond to emergency calls.
