Assistant Planner | City of Hollywood, Florida

The Tone:
This is a full-time, entry-level professional role at the City of Hollywood, Florida, one of the largest cities in Broward County. This position contributes to the city’s growth by supporting critical urban planning and zoning processes, ensuring development aligns with community goals and regulations.

• Mission: To support a comprehensive planning and zoning program by collecting data, reviewing applications, and preparing reports to guide urban development.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis: Collect, compile, tabulate, and analyze factual materials for planning and zoning programs.
• Public Engagement: Disseminate information and make interpretive decisions regarding planning, zoning, and development regulations to the public.
• Application Processing: Review and approve zoning applications, permits, and Certificates of Use in compliance with City regulations.
• Report Preparation: Prepare or assist in creating Board reports for Planning and Development and Historic Preservation Boards.
• Regulatory Review: Review site and permit plans to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Architecture, Landscaping Architecture, Urban Design, or a closely related field, suitable for entry-level professional work.
• Experience: Entry-level professional experience in urban planning or a closely related field.
• Skills: Knowledge of urban planning and zoning principles, modern research and statistical methods, local zoning laws, and the ability to interpret and explain land use regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suites, and GIS software, along with strong communication skills in writing, speaking, and graphical representation.
