The Tone:
This is an internship at Farmers Mutual Hail, located in West Des Moines, IA. Farmers Mutual Hail protects the livelihoods and legacies of America’s farmers through the complete farm insurance solutions they offer. This role provides an opportunity to learn and assist with core accounting functions, directly contributing to the accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency that supports the company’s mission as America’s Crop Insurance Company™. The intern will gain valuable real-world experience in an office environment, developing fundamental accounting skills within an established agricultural insurance provider.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting Support: Help with the quarterly financial reporting process.
• Cash & Account Reconciliation: Reconcile outstanding checks, unclaimed property, and other accounts.
• Reinsurance Operations: Support reinsurance accounting tasks and related reporting.
• Accounts Payable Processing: Assist in coding and entering accounts payable transactions.
• General Ledger Maintenance: Prepare and enter monthly journal entries.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently-enrolled undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. (May 2027 graduates are not eligible).
• Experience: No prior professional experience required.
• Skills: Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial concepts.
• Bonus: Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel.
