Job Description
This internship position within the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet offers a unique learning experience in public service, particularly within the field of transportation infrastructure.
A Day in the Life
An intern, for instance, in the District 5 Shepherdsville Section, could spend their day collaborating with experienced technologists and engineers. This would involve learning to perform inspections, record crucial data, and prepare reports related to ongoing highway construction projects.
Responsibilities Include
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks designed to provide practical experience and learning opportunities:
• Learning to read and interpret engineering documents.
• Learning to operate equipment relevant to transportation projects.
• Maintaining tools and supplies to ensure project efficiency.
• Recording data accurately for various project needs.
• Assisting in developing proposals and reports.

• EDUCATION: None specified.
• EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: None specified.
• Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: None.

• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be 18 years of age at the time of employment (or by May 15, 2026, for graduating high school seniors).
• Must be enrolled on a full-time basis as a graduating high school senior currently taking college-level courses OR a college-level student at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
• Must be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) at the time of hire.

• Applicants must furnish proof of enrollment in a qualifying program to the Personnel Cabinet.
• Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the duration of employment.
Program Requirements (for all Team Kentucky Interns)
All selected interns are expected to fulfill specific program commitments:
• Attend TKIP Orientation.
• Attend at least 1 Professional Development Day.
• Attend at least 1 Agency Tour.
• Complete 300 working hours throughout the program.
• Submit the final project.
• Attend TKIP Reception.
