Job Title: Thermal Engineer

Internal Job Title: Mech Sys Design & Anlys Engr (Level 1-2)

Job Summary

As a Thermal Engineer at Millennium Space Systems, you will be instrumental in the development of all spacecraft thermal systems. Working closely with Spacecraft Development Program Managers and the Chief Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the configuration, design, analysis, testing, and flight operations of these critical systems. This role encompasses all passive and active methods used to maintain the satellite’s system, subsystem, and component environments within both operational and survival temperature limits throughout its entire lifetime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive spacecraft thermal design and analyses at the board, component, subsystem, and system levels.
  • Develop detailed systems and spacecraft element thermal models to accurately predict thermal loads, impacts, and temperature margins, directly supporting robust system design.
  • Present and brief design and analysis materials effectively to program managers, customers, and/or sponsors.
  • Identify and specify all necessary materials, processes, and facilities required to achieve a qualified spacecraft thermal design and ensure successful operation.
  • Support thermal verification testing activities for spacecraft systems and components, including test design, hands-on test conduct, meticulous data reduction, in-depth analysis, and clear reporting.
  • Assist in proposal generation and business development efforts, contributing to the growth and future success of Millennium Space Systems.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or another relevant engineering or scientific field.
  • Experience: 1 or more years of hands-on experience in the design, development, analysis, implementation, testing, and/or operation of spacecraft thermal systems or other complex thermal systems.
  • Software Proficiency: 1 or more years of experience utilizing industry-standard thermal analysis tools such as Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, and/or Thermica.
  • U.S. Citizenship: This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, for which U.S. Citizenship is a mandatory government requirement. A final U.S. clearance Post Start is required.

Pay is determined by candidate experience, qualifications, and market/business considerations.

  • Level 1 Pay Range: $63,000 – $113,000
  • Level 2 Pay Range: $75,000 – $134,000

Important Requirements & Considerations

  • Security Clearance: An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/SCI Clearance Post-Start is required. Applicants MUST be U.S. citizens and eligible for a security clearance, and willing to apply for and maintain one.
  • Export Control: This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet these requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is mandatory. A “U.S. Person” includes a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
  • Relocation: Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.
