What To Expect (Internship Logistics):

  • Duration: The internship is anticipated to continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending around May 2026). There is potential for continuation into Summer 2026, contingent on availability and opportunity.
  • Minimum Commitment: A minimum of 12 weeks is required for most internships.
  • Work Arrangement: This is a full-time and on-site position.
  • Eligibility: The internship program is exclusively for students actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking full-time employment after graduation and not returning to school are advised to apply for full-time positions instead of internships.
  • International Students: If your work authorization is via CPT, you must consult your school to confirm your ability to work 40 hours per week. The role requires working 40 hours per week on-site. Be aware that many students may have limitations to part-time work during the academic year.

About The Team:

Tesla is actively seeking a Technical Writing Intern to join its dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the conceptualization, design, management, and creation of critical documents that underpin the success of various teams across the organization. You will collaborate closely with a diverse group of professionals, including engineers, technicians, project managers, and other writers, to meticulously gather information, formulate compelling content, and ensure final products are thoroughly reviewed with relevant stakeholders.

This internship provides an invaluable opportunity to interact with and directly contribute to the improvement of multiple facets of documentation, thereby facilitating a seamless technical publications lifecycle. The documents you will work on are designed for a broad spectrum of audiences, ranging from technicians and engineers to account managers and customers. Furthermore, you will have the chance to write documentation for multiple cutting-edge Energy products, making a direct and tangible contribution to the world’s acceleration towards sustainable energy.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):

  • Document Creation & Publication: Write, edit, validate, and publish comprehensive technical documents. This includes, but is not limited to, installation manuals, service manuals, datasheets, commissioning guides, and software walk-throughs.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Effectively collaborate and build strong working relationships with subject matter experts (SMEs) such as engineers, technicians, and product managers. This ensures alignment on programs/projects/priorities and guarantees that all content is accurate and approved.
  • Project Management: Proactively manage multiple documentation projects and initiatives concurrently. This involves ensuring that priorities are appropriately addressed and that all standard team processes are rigorously followed.
  • Information Tracking & Socialization: Track ongoing product iterations and improvements across different regions worldwide. The goal is to ensure all information, including region-specific details, is properly documented and socialized in a timely manner.
  • Hands-on Product Interaction: Interact directly with hardware and/or software products in a hands-on capacity to fully understand their functionality. This deep product understanding will enable more effective content creation.
  • Translation Management: Manage document translations to support the successful worldwide deployment of products and ensure the availability of region-specific information.

What You’ll Bring (Required Qualifications):

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Technical Writing, English, Communication, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Content Creation Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in creating and editing various forms of content, such as press releases, newsletters, presentations, and blogs.
  • Exceptional Writing Skills: Excellent writing, proofreading, and storytelling abilities.
  • Brand & Messaging Acumen: Strong understanding of brand voice and the importance of messaging consistency.
  • Digital Analytics Awareness: An understanding of digital analytics to track the performance and impact of communications.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with other departments (e.g., HR, marketing, legal) to ensure messaging consistency and alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Collaboration & Communication Facilitation: Skilled in facilitating collaboration between teams and managing different communication channels efficiently.
