Tax Season Intern – Winter 2027 | SpartanNash
The Tone:
This is an on-site internship at SpartanNash, located in Byron Center, Michigan, running from January 20th through April 17th, 2027. SpartanNash, a key member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, operates as a comprehensive food solutions company. It functions as a distributor, wholesaler, and retailer with a global supply chain, delivering grocery and household goods, including fresh produce and the Our Family® product portfolio, to locations across all 50 states and various customer types. This role within the Financial Services department is vital for supporting independent grocery stores, offering essential accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and income tax services. The Tax Season Intern will contribute directly to navigating the year-end tax filing season, playing a key part in ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance for these valued clients.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare Michigan Personal Property Tax Returns for clients.
• Prepare Federal and State business income tax returns, including partnership, corporate, and S corporation filings.
• Prepare Federal and State individual income tax returns for clients.
• Prepare quarterly Federal and State estimated tax payments.
• Assist with tax planning, research, and the preparation of client memorandums.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Minimum education required is a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). This role is for an Accounting Major actively working towards a B.A/B.S degree, signifying an entry-level career stage.
• Experience: Candidates should be currently pursuing a B.A/B.S degree with a declared Accounting Major. No prior professional experience is explicitly required, though a strong academic foundation in accounting is essential for this internship.
• Skills:
1. Collaboration & Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, while maintaining a high degree of initiative, poise, and confidentiality in all tasks.
2. Communication: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills necessary for preparing client memorandums and interacting within the department.
3. Organization & Attention to Detail: Exhibit good organizational, prioritization, and detail-oriented skills, crucial for accurate tax document preparation and filing.
4. Proactiveness: A willingness to take initiatives and actively seek opportunities to learn new processes and responsibilities within the financial services environment.
5. Technical Proficiency: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products, essential for daily tasks and record-keeping.
• Bonus: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred for candidates.
