Tax Accountant – Encore Program Internship | Texas Instruments

The Tone:
This is a 12-week paid internship at Texas Instruments, located in Dallas, TX, specifically part of the Encore Program designed for experienced professionals or veterans returning to the workforce after an extended career break of two years or more. Texas Instruments is a global semiconductor company that designs, manufactures, and sells analog and embedded processing chips for diverse markets like industrial, automotive, and data centers. In this Tax Accountant role, you will be a direct contributor within the TI tax department, solving real problems and gaining valuable exposure to complex tax issues and responsibilities inherent in working for a multinational publicly traded company. High-performing participants will be considered for full-time employment at the program’s conclusion.

• Mission: To assist the TI tax department with federal and state income tax forecast, compliance processes, and special projects for a multinational publicly traded company.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Federal and State Tax Returns: Assist with the preparation of complex federal and state income tax returns.
• Tax Compliance Activities: Participate in various aspects of tax compliance, such as performing tax calculations for fixed assets, stock compensation, and R&D credit, and managing inputs and consolidated return tie-outs in the tax compliance software.
• Estimated Payments and Provisions: Support the federal and state quarterly estimated payment, extension, and provision processes.
• Technical Tax Research: Research complex tax technical issues and communicate the implications for TI tax compliance in a clear and concise manner.
• Process Improvement: Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that streamline and influence TI-level processes within the tax function.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Experienced Professional. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Experience: A career break of at least 2 years; 2+ years of accounting or tax adjacent work experience, including internships; and U.S. work-authorization required with no sponsorship now or in the future.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational and time management skills, demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and effectively under pressure while managing deadlines.
• Bonus: CPA or CPA eligible and/or a Master’s degree in taxation or accounting; experience at a large corporation with a multistate presence or at a large public accounting firm; academic and/or working knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, including multistate tax concepts; familiarity with tax software gained through coursework, internships, or work experience; willingness to learn OneSource Income Tax and related suite of products, and tax-specific research tools such as RIA Checkpoint or BNA/Bloomberg; exposure to corporate federal and state income tax return preparation through coursework, internships, or work experience; experience with data analytics tools (Excel or Alteryx) or business software (SAP, BPC, Business Objects) through coursework, internships, or work experience.
