Tax Intern, Transfer Pricing | BDO USA, PC

The Tone:
This is an internship at BDO USA, PC, available in various US locations. BDO USA, PC helps multi-national companies ensure their intercompany transactions are priced correctly. This role is crucial in assisting consulting economists to analyze economic conditions and industry trends, evaluate client transactions, and consult with clients to set prices that comply with foreign and domestic tax regulations. The position is essential for providing comprehensive transfer pricing services, requiring both strong analytical and exceptional writing abilities.

• Mission: Help multi-national companies correctly price their transactions between entities within their corporate group to comply with foreign and domestic tax regulations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Information Gathering: Conduct client interviews to collect data on corporate structure, functional responsibilities, risk distribution, value drivers, and industry context affecting inter-company transactions.
• Financial Analysis: Analyze industry and client financial data to benchmark appropriate intercompany pricing policies, evaluate market penetration scenarios, and calculate the value of intangible property.
• Report Preparation: Prepare project reports for clients, including methodology, research, quantitative analysis, and results, which document compliance with tax regulations and provide consulting advice.
• Client Engagement: Prepare and deliver presentations to convey analytical results and recommendations to clients, and participate in presentations to pitch service capabilities to potential clients.
• Report Writing: Draft industry overviews, functional analyses, and technical memos for transfer pricing reports, take detailed interview notes, and proofread and edit reports prior to client delivery.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Accounting, Economics, or another relevant field of study.
• Experience: No specific years required.
• Skills: Exceptional research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills; Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); Effective interpersonal and public speaking skills for professional client communication and presentations; Solid organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; Basic understanding of transfer pricing with a keen desire to learn.
• Bonus: Leadership experience preferred.
