Tax Intern Leadership Program (TILP) – Winter & Summer 2028 (Houston) | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a 20-week rotational internship at BDO USA, located in Houston, TX. BDO provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and around the world, helping them navigate complexity with clarity. This program aims to attract top talent by offering a unique leadership experience across multiple tax lines, providing diverse experiences and exclusive leadership access, and expediting promotion within a tax career. This role is a foundation for exploring all opportunities within a tax career.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Rotational, 20-week
• Location: In-person Houston, TX
• Team: Rotates across Core Tax Services (CTS), Private Client Services (PCS), and Specialty Tax Services (STS).
• Mission: Assist clients in maximizing benefits by decreasing current and future taxes, ensuring compliance, and developing specialized tax expertise.
• Tech Stack: Caseware, Go Systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Consulting: Assist clients in maximizing benefits by decreasing current and future taxes through federal, state, international, and wealth transfer planning, utilizing online research tools.
• Tax Compliance: Ensure client adherence to applicable tax authorities and minimize their tax and reporting burdens, while also maintaining compliance with internal Firm policies and standards.
• Tax Specialization: Develop an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities across various areas of taxation.
• Strategy Development: Prepare tax presentations for client meetings.
• Software Utilization: Complete basic tax returns using Caseware, Go Systems, and other tax-related software under supervision.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting or Finance, and enrolled in a University Professional Program in Accounting (or similar).
• Experience: This is an entry-level internship. Students must be vetted by the university (accounting professor, PPA program faculty, or similar) as part of the selection process.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, ability to follow instructions, ability to work effectively in a team setting, positive attitude and willingness to learn, ability to prepare simple tax returns.
• Bonus: Letter of recommendation, leadership experience, actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA, interest in developing a career post-graduation within business development.
