Tax Intern Job Description
KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern for their Commercial Japanese practice in Business Tax Services. The intern will be an integral part of a team assisting high-profile clients with complex business opportunities and challenges. This is an opportunity to develop your career through multifaceted engagements, formal training, and informal mentoring.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in advising clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research
• Help prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies doing business in the United States
• Assist with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) reported on financial statements
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a wide range of tax services to Japanese-based companies
• Build capabilities in key technologies that enable tax professionals for client service delivery such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, and more
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial or systems), or an equivalent program
• Preferred: Degrees and/or areas of study: Accounting and Taxation
• Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (completion of academic credits required prior to starting as a Tax Associate)
• Upon completion of this internship, candidates must have additional academic credits to complete before obtaining their degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above
• Bilingual in English and Japanese with the ability to use both Japanese and English language skills in a business environment
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred
• Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and the ability to navigate MS Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexible and adaptable team player; and resourceful in delivering high-quality work
• Ability to learn and navigate technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI
• Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office for this position and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using own means of transportation, such as a personal vehicle or public transportation
• Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, at times with relatively short notice
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future is preferred
