Tax Intern | Simplot Company

The Tone:
This is an internship at Simplot Company, located in Boise, Idaho. Simplot is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. As a true farm-to-table company, Simplot operates with an integrated portfolio that spans food processing, food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching, and cattle production, alongside other agriculture-related enterprises. This Tax Intern role offers a unique opportunity to build a valuable skill set and gain real, relevant experience in tax and accounting within a major international organization. Interns will engage in challenging work that provides exposure to a wide variety of technical tax issues across different facets of the business.

• Mission: This person supports the Simplot Tax Department by executing critical compliance filings, research, and data compilation across various tax types.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Filings: Prepare sales and use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions across the United States.
• Audit Support: Compile comprehensive information and documentation to effectively support sales tax audits.
• Tax Research: Assist with conducting detailed tax research, analyzing findings, and documenting conclusions clearly for departmental use.
• Property Tax Management: Monitor and accurately record property tax bills and assessments, utilizing specialized tax technology tools for efficient tracking.
• Special Projects: Provide essential assistance with income tax research and various special projects as assigned by the tax department.
• International Compliance: Support the filing processes for international GST/PST (Goods and Services Tax / Provincial Sales Tax) requirements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a full-time student actively pursuing a BA/BS or MS degree in Accounting or Tax.
• Experience: Demonstrated strong proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other MS Office applications.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; a clear interest in an indirect tax career; flexibility with the work schedule, especially during the school year.
• Bonus: Preferred availability for a 6-month period; early Junior status in an undergraduate accounting program or early Senior status committed to a Master of Tax graduate program.
