Job Description: Tax Intern (Commercial Japanese Practice)

KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern for its Commercial Japanese practice within Business Tax Services. This internship offers the opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team providing tax services to Japanese-based companies operating in the US.

Responsibilities:

Client Advising: Assist in advising clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including compliance, planning, and research.
Tax Return Preparation: Help prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies conducting business in the United States.
Financial Statement Accounting: Assist with accounting for income taxes (ASC 740 and IAS 12) as reported on financial statements.
Teamwork: Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a wide range of tax services to Japanese clients.
Technology Proficiency: Develop skills in key technologies used in tax client service delivery, including AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
Professionalism: Maintain integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility, upholding KPMG’s work environment standards.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Degrees/Areas of Study: Accounting and Taxation.
• CPA Track: Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the office’s state of operation (completion of required academic credits before starting as a Tax Associate).
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingualism: Fluency in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages in a business setting.
• Information Systems Background: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics is preferred.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; flexibility, adaptability as a team player, and resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work.
• Technology Skills: Ability to learn and use technologies such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Commutability/Travel: Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed, sometimes on short notice. Own transportation is required.
• Authorization to Work: Authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship is preferred.
