Tax Associate | PKF O’Connor Davies

The Tax Associate plays a crucial part in supporting the firm’s tax services by preparing complex returns for professional services clients, high-net-worth individuals, families, and related entities, directly contributing to long-term client relationships and the firm’s ongoing success.
The TL;DR

• Team: Collaborates closely with and reports to Senior Associates, Supervisors, Managers, and Directors within the tax department.
• Mission: To provide high-quality tax compliance services and support, enabling clients to confidently navigate complex tax challenges while continuously developing technical expertise.
• Tech Stack: Proficient use of MS Office Suite, tax research platforms such as CCH, BNA, and RIA, with knowledge of CCH Axcess being a distinct advantage.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare Tax Returns: You will be responsible for preparing a variety of federal, state, and local tax returns, encompassing forms 1040 (Individual), 1041 (Trusts & Estates), 1065 (Partnerships), 1120-S (S corporations), and 709 (Gift Tax), alongside returns for related entities like management companies, holding companies, and investment partnerships.
• Develop Engagement Deliverables: You will assist in the preparation of essential tax workpapers, supporting schedules, and various other deliverables crucial for client engagements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Foster Team Collaboration: You will actively contribute to a supportive and collaborative team environment, providing necessary support to engagement teams as required to achieve collective project goals.
• Manage Assignments: You will efficiently manage multiple tax assignments concurrently, maintaining strong organization and attention to detail to ensure all deliverables are timely and accurate.
• Conduct Tax Research: You will perform basic tax research on specific issues and assist in thoroughly documenting the conclusions derived from this research to support tax positions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, establishing a solid foundation in tax compliance.
• Experience: Preference is given to candidates with 1+ years of progressive tax experience gained in public accounting, particularly with direct experience preparing individual, partnership, S corporation, trust, gift tax, and investment partnership returns.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong organizational capabilities, analytical thinking, and problem-solving aptitude; excellent interpersonal skills complemented by strong verbal and written communication abilities; and a proven capacity to work collaboratively and cultivate robust professional relationships.
• Bonus: A Master of Science in Taxation (MST) is considered a significant plus; an active CPA license, EA certification, or demonstrable progress toward certification is highly preferred; knowledge of CCH Axcess is also preferred; and exposure to multi-entity and multi-state taxation issues would be beneficial for the role.
