The Tone:
This is an internship at CBIZ, a firm dedicated to providing comprehensive tax services to a diverse client base across industries such as Real Estate, Construction, Healthcare, and Manufacturing. In this role, the intern will gain practical experience in various tax assignments, directly contributing to client satisfaction and supporting the firm’s commitment to high professional standards and client confidentiality. This position is fundamental to assisting clients in navigating complex tax landscapes and achieving their financial objectives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Planning and Strategy: Assist in gaining an understanding of and actively participate in planning multiple tax assignments, supporting clients across a wide range of industries including Real Estate, Construction, Healthcare, and Manufacturing.
• Tax Return Preparation: Prepare and diligently review federal and state tax returns specifically for partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, and individual clients.
• Compliance and Audit Support: Develop essential tax compliance knowledge and provide assistance with IRS audits, effectively respond to tax notices, and prepare specialized trust, gift, and estate returns.
• Financial Reporting and Auditing: Prepare accurate compilations, thorough reviews, and comprehensive audits for clients operating across various industries.
• Client Engagement and Service: Actively participate in client assignments from their inception to completion, developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with client staff at all levels to enhance satisfaction and strengthen professional relationships, while providing exceptional service through individual attention and responsiveness to client goals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level position for individuals actively working towards a Bachelor’s degree, indicating a foundational commitment to the field of tax and accounting.
• Experience: Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, analytical, research, and project management skills. This includes the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, across all levels of an organization. Additionally, the role requires a proven ability to multi-task, think independently, and problem-solve efficiently within a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
• Skills: Strong technical proficiency is required, specifically with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and intranet software. A basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), taxation compliance, relevant codes, and regulations is also essential for success in this role.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should be CPA eligible with a strong desire to obtain certification, and possess an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Prior internship experience in accounting or a related field is also a valuable asset.
