Tax Analyst | FirstEnergy

The Tone:
This is an onsite Analyst position at FirstEnergy, located at its corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio. This role is crucial for supporting various functions within the Tax Department, including tax planning, tax accounting, and tax compliance, contributing to the company’s financial integrity and regulatory adherence.

• Team: Reports to the Director of Tax Planning within the Tax Department.
• Mission: To support the Tax Department’s functions, including tax planning, tax accounting, and tax compliance, ensuring accurate financial reporting and regulatory adherence.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint), SAP (preferred).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analyze Tax Impacts: Model the tax impacts of business transactions and changes in tax laws and regulations, collaborating with Accounting, Finance, Regulatory, and operational teams.
• Perform Tax Accounting: Execute various accounting and analytical tasks to support income tax provision calculations, including preparing journal entries for monthly and quarterly closing, and documenting financial reporting and internal control functions.
• Support Tax Returns: Compile and analyze data necessary for the preparation and filing of federal and state income and non-income tax returns.
• Prepare Regulatory Reports: Compile and analyze data to support the preparation and filing of various regulatory reports and/or rate cases.
• Assist Financial Forecasts: Support financial forecasts by preparing temporary and permanent book-tax differences impacting segment and consolidated taxable income and effective tax rates, communicating results effectively.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a comparable degree with an Accounting minor or specialization.
• Experience: Minimum 0-2 years of work experience, proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to follow established practices and procedures, capacity to produce accurate and timely work products, and ability to work independently on special assignments.
• Bonus: Experience with SAP and the ability to learn other company/industry-specific applications.
