System Director Clinical Pharmacy | Medical University of South Carolina

The Tone:
This is a full-time regular role at Medical University Hospital Authority, part of the Medical University of South Carolina, located in South Carolina, USA. This role is crucial for ensuring the strategic oversight, planning, and coordination of clinical pharmacy services across the entire health system. The System Director will lead initiatives to improve patient care, enhance clinical effectiveness, optimize patient experience, and achieve the organization’s financial and quality goals.

• Team: Reports directly to the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO).
• Mission: Lead the direct oversight, planning, and coordination of clinical pharmacy across the health system to improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, and patient access and to optimize patient experience and quality.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead Clinical Pharmacy: Provide leadership and operational oversight for all clinical pharmacy activities at all system sites, including Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Residency Programs.
• Manage Strategy & Finance: Collaborate on strategic projects and initiatives, oversee departmental budgets and variances, and establish processes to improve efficiencies and drive financial improvement.
• Ensure Quality & Service: Assess staffing, develop strategies for standardizing patient and provider experiences, and ensure the highest level of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance across all areas of responsibility.
• Optimize Operations: Develop and implement strategies to ensure adequate space utilization, standardize operations, and partner with leadership to ensure smooth patient flow across all locations.
• Develop Talent: Select, develop, and deploy staff effectively, provide mentorship and coaching to leaders and care team members, and identify opportunities for professional growth and development.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a master’s degree in a healthcare-related field such as Healthcare Administration, MS, or MBA, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 5 years of operational/clinical pharmacy management work experience in specialty pharmacy environments, three (3) years of which as a direct supervisor or team leader.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with leaders and multiple disciplines; talent in the selection and mentoring of a high-quality, effective team; proven ability to lead change, organize teams, and delegate responsibility appropriately; proven ability to use data to drive performance improvement; strong written and verbal communication skills; SC Pharmacist License or eligible for licensure within 6 months; Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
