About the Job: Summer IT Help Desk Intern

Are you seeking a paid college internship and interested in learning how IT works behind the scenes in a real workplace? MacAllister Machinery, a premier Caterpillar dealership and one of the best equipment dealers in the country, offers an extremely valuable opportunity to join our team for the summer. Our internship with Information Technology provides students with the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in a supportive and fast-paced environment.

Entering our tenth successful year of the Summer College Internship Program, we are looking for highly motivated, hardworking individuals who enjoy problem-solving, leading projects, participating in key business leader relationships, and recommending improvements to existing processes.

As a Summer IT Help Desk Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience helping employees replace their laptops and mobile phones while learning the basics of IT support, customer service, and inventory management. This is a great opportunity to build practical skills, gain confidence working with technology, and explore a career in IT.

What You’ll Do

  • Help replace older laptops and mobile phones for employees.
  • Communicate with customers to schedule device replacements and answer basic questions.
  • Learn the step-by-step process for setting up and swapping devices.
  • Prepare laptops and phones for use, following clear instructions and checklists.
  • Collect old devices and ensure they are handled properly.
  • Track equipment and help keep inventory records up to date.
  • Organize and label IT equipment and accessories.
  • Update tickets or logs to document your work.
  • Work closely with the Help Desk team and learn from experienced IT staff.

What We’re Looking For

  • A student currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) a program related to IT, technology, or a similar field — or simply someone with a strong interest in technology.
  • Comfortable using laptops, smartphones, and basic software.
  • Friendly, reliable, and willing to learn.
  • Organized and able to follow instructions.
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks and ask questions when needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor program with an accredited college.
  • Currently pursuing an IT career.
  • Available to work full-time for 12 weeks (May 11th through August).
