What You Will Do

As an intern, you will work alongside industry professionals on high-impact projects that directly shape Center City and its future. You will gain hands-on experience in specialized areas while building a professional network with city leaders and community stakeholders. Key areas of experience include:

  • Urban Forestry

Horticulture & Urban Forestry Internship Focus

This specific internship track is designed for students interested in urban green spaces. You will gain hands-on experience in urban forestry and landscape horticulture, playing a direct role in enhancing our community’s green infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities and Day-to-Day Tasks:

  • GIS Inventory: Create a comprehensive inventory of Center City District’s urban forest and planting beds using GIS technology.
  • Species Documentation: Survey and document tree and plant species.
  • Condition Assessment: Assess the current conditions of trees and planting beds.
  • Priority Identification: Identify planting priorities for future landscape improvements.
  • Environmental Benefit Calculation: Calculate the environmental benefits provided by the urban forest.

Deliverables:

  • Digital inventories with interactive maps.
  • Maintenance guidelines for green spaces.
  • Strategic planting plans.
  • A final presentation to CCD leadership outlining your findings and recommendations.
