Overview of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG)
The City of Atlanta Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent agency dedicated to promoting integrity, efficiency, upholding public trust, and ensuring transparency in City operations. The OIG achieves this mission through government investigations, administrative law, compliance, and municipal oversight, ultimately working to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse within City government.
About the Internship
The City of Atlanta Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking highly motivated and analytical law students to join our internship program. This unique opportunity allows interns to gain hands-on experience in a critical area of public service, assisting with a wide range of legal and investigative matters related to government oversight, policy review, fraud prevention, and public accountability.
Interns will play a vital role in supporting the OIG’s mission by contributing to efforts that promote integrity, efficiency, and transparency within City operations, while upholding public trust.
Internship Duration
- Summer Program: May 7, 2026 – July 29, 2026
- Fall Program: September 10, 2026 – December 17, 2026

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis on local, state, and federal laws relevant to the OIG’s work.
- Assist in drafting memoranda, reports, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
- Support the Inspector General and investigators in the review of complaints, investigations, and enforcement actions.
- Analyze contracts, city ordinances, and policies for potential fraud, waste, or abuse.
- Participate in witness interviews and case strategy discussions (as appropriate).
- Help review and assess city procurement contracts, disclosures, and compliance reports.
- Assist in preparing materials for administrative proceedings, Governing Board, and public reports.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited law school (1L, 2L, or 3L students eligible).
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated interest in government law, administrative law, compliance, or public policy.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to grasp an understanding of Georgia Open Records laws and City procurement policies.

Location and Schedule
This is an onsite position. The hours and days for the internship can be arranged on an individual basis to accommodate academic and personal commitments.
