Job Title: Summer Intern – Deep Learning/Reinforcement Learning for Computer Vision & Autonomous Control

About the Role:

Join STR’s cutting-edge Video & Image Understanding (VIU) Group as a summer intern. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop and apply deep learning or reinforcement learning techniques to tackle previously unaddressed and challenging problems in computer vision, situational awareness, and autonomous control. You will contribute to robust, scalable solutions that enhance national security for intelligence analysts and military decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work as an integral part of a project team, receiving focused mentorship from experienced staff.
• Adapt, extend, and optimize innovative machine learning algorithms specifically for challenging computer vision or autonomy problems.
• Collaborate with STR research engineers and academic researchers who are frequently part of the team, to develop practical and powerful machine learning and computer vision solutions.
• Evaluate and optimize machine learning performance using relevant and practical datasets.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD degree program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• A successful track record of applying machine learning algorithms, such as deep learning or reinforcement learning, to computer vision or autonomy problems.
• Strong academic record and a genuine interest in research.
• Demonstrated experience in scientific software development, particularly with Python.
• U.S. citizenship is required for the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Compensation (Full-Time Salary Range):

$89,000 – $112,000

The salary range listed is based on external market data. Offers are determined by various factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key skills/critical skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
