Job Description
Job Title: Summer Associate (2026 Summer Associate Program)
Location: U.S. office locations (excluding Chicago).
Program Overview:
The Summer Associate Program offers participants an immersive experience into the daily life of an associate at Fish. It provides insights into various aspects of the associate experience, including training programs, drafting memos, and strategic discussions. The program emphasizes skills development through complex client work assignments and structured training. It aims to prepare summer associates to seamlessly integrate into the firm’s ranks. The firm fosters a collaborative environment, where summer associates are treated as respected teammates, working alongside an elite group of attorneys.
Key Responsibilities (What You Will Do):
• For Patent Prosecution Summer Associates: Draft patent applications.
• For Patent Litigation Summer Associates: Conduct research and draft memos for litigation cases.
• May have opportunities to attend client meetings, depositions, and even trials.
• Explore the office’s city and experience local culture with attorneys serving as guides.
• Attend a firmwide Summer Associate Retreat, which includes training, networking, and recreational activities.
Required Qualifications (Who You Are):
• A strong passion for science, engineering, and intellectual property.
• A demonstrated record of academic and professional excellence in science or technology.
• Superior writing ability.
• Curiosity and motivation to understand how things work.
• Currently in good standing as a law student at an ABA accredited law school, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027.
• Possess enthusiasm and eagerness to rise to challenges.
• Ability to thrive effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• For Patent Litigation and Patent Prosecution Summer Positions: Requires a scientific or technical background (demonstrated through a degree and/or experience), excellent academic credentials, and superior writing ability.
Compensation:
• 2025 Summer Associate Salary: $4,327 per week.
