Job Description:

L’Arche Chicago is offering a Summer Assistant Internship. In this role, you will share life with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and other assistants in one of their three community homes.

As a summer intern, you will become part of the L’Arche community by taking on the role of an assistant and sharing in daily life with core members (individuals with IDD) and other assistants. This includes activities such as making dinner together, watching television, going to the gym, or heading out for coffee.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct care support to the core members, including assisting with:
• Cleaning the home
• Cooking meals
• Attending to personal care
• Medications (training provided)
• Transportation (training provided)
• Appointments (training provided)
• Budgeting (training provided)
• Behavioral interventions (training provided)
• Participate in community life and build genuine relationships of mutual support with core members and other assistants.

Ideal Candidates:

While open to all, this internship is particularly valuable for students in medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, philosophy, theology, or education. Program Details:

• 10-week program.
• Live-in position at one of L’Arche Chicago’s homes.
• Program dates: May 27 – August 2 (flexible start and end dates).
• Application deadline: Friday, March 7 (rolling basis).
