About the Job: Summer Application Specialist Intern
Location: Omaha/Lincoln
Employment Type: Internship (Summer-only, Full-time)
Kidwell is seeking a hard-working, positive, and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Summer Application Specialist Intern. This is a full-time, summer-only opportunity tailored for students pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field, eager to gain hands-on experience in software development, API integration, and AI/ML initiatives.
The primary function of this position is to support the Application Specialist in developing and integrating software solutions across the organization. The intern will actively contribute to real-world technical projects, with a particular focus on an AI/ML initiative. Additional tasks and responsibilities will be assigned based on the intern’s abilities and the department’s needs.
This unique internship offers the chance to acquire real-world experience in API development and AI/ML applications, all while working collaboratively alongside experienced professionals in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in analyzing, designing, and supporting RESTful APIs and software integration.
- Write and optimize SQL queries to support reporting, automation, and application functionality.
- Develop and test Python-based scripts and applications.
- Assist with converting SQL queries into API calls using JSON or XML.
- Support troubleshooting efforts and help identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Participate in the development lifecycle, including testing, documentation, and implementation.
- Complete a summer AI/ML-focused project that may include data analysis, predictive modeling, or automation initiatives.
- Complete special technical projects and other miscellaneous assignments as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL is required.
- Coursework or a minor in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science is preferred.
- Basic understanding of RESTful APIs, object-oriented programming, and database structures is preferred.
- Honesty, dependability, organization, and strong attention to detail are essential to this position.
- Possesses strong verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
