Job Description

Job Title: Summer Engineering Internship (Manufacturing Engineer / Process Engineer)

Job Overview:
Medtronic offers a summer internship program for aspiring engineers to gain real-world experience within experienced engineering teams. Interns will contribute to improving the lives of millions by making a mark at the intersection of medicine and technology. The program aims to provide a life-long career of exploration and innovation, helping champion healthcare access and equity.

A Day in the Life (Potential Roles):
Interns in the Operations engineering group may take on roles such as Manufacturing Engineer or Process Engineer.

Manufacturing Engineer:
• Designs manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.
• Designs the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.

Process Engineer:
• Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area.
• Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to meet quality standards, improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques, and production yields for existing products.

Internship Structure and Benefits:
Duration: Full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions lasting 10-11 weeks.
Compensation: Competitive, with an hourly rate ranging from $26.50 – $45.25 per hour, determined by the position and the number of years of school completed.
Additional Support: For interns relocating more than 50 miles from home or school, Medtronic provides housing assistance and a relocation and transportation stipend.
Programming: Educational and social programming is offered throughout the summer.
Work Arrangement: A minimum of 4 days a week onsite is required as part of Medtronic’s commitment to professional growth and cross-functional collaboration.
Locations: The majority of positions are based at primary hubs in Minnesota, California, Colorado, and the Northeastern U.S. (Connecticut & Massachusetts). Opportunities are also available in other states including Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas. Candidate location preferences are considered, but flexibility increases opportunities.
Residency: All interns must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

Must-Haves (Basic Requirements):
To be considered, candidates must clearly demonstrate the following on their resume:
• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering major.
• Anticipated graduation date of Winter 2026, Spring 2027, Winter 2027, or Spring 2028.
• Ability to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of the intern cohort:
• June 1 – August 14 (semester system programs)
• June 15 – August 21 (quarter system programs)
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and do not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa. Individuals with temporary visas (E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J, TN) or those needing future sponsorship are not eligible.

Nice-To-Haves (Preferred Qualifications):
• A minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Flexibility in geographic location.
• Knowledge of one or more technologies: C/C++, C#, SQL, Python, Minitab, MATLAB, CAD (SolidWorks/Autocad or equivalent).
• Prior work on projects in a team environment.
• Relevant academic project, internship, or lab experience.
• Technical writing skills.
• Experience with statistics and data analysis or Digital IC Design Theory.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; self-motivated, willing to learn, and a self-starter.

While the full benefits package applies to regular employees working 20+ hours per week, temporary employees (including interns) are eligible for:
