Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Summer 2024 Apparel Design Internship – American Eagle & Aerie
REPORTS TO: Assistant/Associate Designer
LOCATION: New York Design Office
Position Overview
Apparel Design Interns will participate in a 10-week full-time, paid internship program based out of the AEO Inc. New York Design Office. Interns will work side-by-side with designers and cross-functional partners within the AE or Aerie brands. This opportunity offers a glimpse into the corporate culture, allows for networking with talented students and designers, and can lead to a career at AEO Inc. post-graduation.
Training Overview
• Placement on the Design team within a specific brand/product category.
• On-the-Job training with assignments guided by an individual Mentor.
• Classroom learning.
• Opportunity to create and present a summer-long capsule collection project to Senior Design Leadership.
• Roundtables with top-level executives in Design and other departments.
• Midpoint and final program evaluations.
• Pre-planned events in New York City.
• Opportunity for consideration into future Assistant Design roles after successful internship completion.
Responsibilities
• Assist an appointed designer in all aspects of product development, from concept to design and final development.
• Learn raw materials and trims related to a specific classification.
• Assist in daily follow-up with buyers and vendors.
• Sketch designs in Illustrator (flats).
• Prepare PLM packages and transfer sketches from Illustrator.
• Execute presentation boards for monthly meetings.
• Observe presentation techniques.
• Assist and take direction for preliminary design research.
• Observe fit process.
• Review lab dips with Supervisor and send comments to vendors.
• Prepare line sheets and update as necessary.
• Complete a summer-long project to be presented to Senior Design Leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion or Art (or equivalent experience and education).
• Must be in your Junior Academic Year – Graduate in December 2025 or May/June 2026.
• Excellent communication and analytic skills.
• Detail-oriented, computer literate, and able to handle multiple tasks.
• Basic knowledge of garment construction.
• Working knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, and Excel.
• Familiar with MAC and PC format.
• Ability to be in the New York City area for the duration of the internship.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, requiring in-person/in-office work for a portion or all of a week based on business needs.
Pay/Benefits Information
• Actual starting pay is determined by factors like experience and location.
