The Tone:
This is an internship at City of Santa Clara, Silicon Valley Power (SVP), located in Santa Clara, CA. Silicon Valley Power has been the trusted provider of electricity for Santa Clara since 1896, with a dedicated Electric Department ensuring reliable service. This role provides hands-on experience in diverse areas, allowing interns to contribute directly to the success of SVP and the community it serves. Interns will apply learned skills in a practical environment while gaining valuable new concepts.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Support: Assist with administrative duties for customer engagement and educational outreach programs, including tracking efforts and preparing reports on various topics.
• Community Engagement: Participate in and promote SVP’s customer programs and energy education at community events, working with schools and targeting income-qualified customers.
• Technical Operations: Provide level 1 technical support, troubleshoot desktop systems and mobile devices, assist with software updates, and maintain IT documentation.
• Engineering & Project Aid: Support electric engineering activities across project stages from data gathering to close-out, assisting with ACAD changes, field measurements, and document digitization.
• Compliance & Data: Aid in regulatory Environmental, Health, and Safety programs through audits, inspections, data collection, report drafting, and managing asset inventories.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university, actively pursuing an undergraduate or Master’s degree. This position is suitable for students seeking practical experience in various fields related to utility operations.
• Experience: No prior experience is required for these student intern positions, making them ideal for individuals eager to apply academic knowledge in a professional environment.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for document creation, data management, and presentations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with staff, customers, and community members.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license, as some roles may require participation in off-site community events or field visits.
• Basic troubleshooting capabilities for common hardware and software issues, applicable in technical support environments.
• Bonus:
• Prior internship experience in IT support, or a foundational understanding of desktop/mobile operating systems and networking concepts.
• Familiarity with GIS systems, electrical theory, or AutoCAD for engineering-focused roles.
• Enrollment in specific majors such as Environmental, Health, and Safety, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related engineering fields.
