Dallas Regional Medical Center is a 202-bed acute care hospital accredited by The Joint Commission that offers a wide range of medical services including 24/7 emergency care, cardiology, wound care, surgical services, cardiac catheterization, and imaging. The hospital is the only Certified Stroke Center, Accredited Chest Pain Center, and Labor and Delivery Unit in the area. In addition, Dallas Regional is the only Trauma Center for 13 miles, and was the first Accredited Geriatric Emergency Room in Dallas County. Responsibilities
The Student Extern serves as an adjunct to the patient care team. Externs perform duties at a level corresponding to the successful completion of the clinical section of their nursing program at a local college. Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols, expanding their skill set as approved.
Note: All newly hired externs will initially function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their current nursing program clinical level. Once cleared by the Supervisor, students may be advanced to their appropriate skill level.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
- Must be in their 4th year of a nursing program.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred.
