Staff Property Accountant | Phillips Edison & Company

The Tone:
This is a Staff Property Accountant role at Phillips Edison & Company. This critical position is responsible for ensuring the financial health and accuracy of property-related accounts. The role plays a vital part in maintaining precise financial records by understanding, reconciling, and analyzing all balance sheet and income statement accounts, and by identifying and explaining any variances from budget. This work directly supports the financial integrity and reporting capabilities of the company.

• Mission: Ensures financial accuracy and integrity by understanding, reconciling, and analyzing all property-related balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), MRI.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare: Generate journal entries, worksheets, reconciliations, and other documentation to ensure all transactions comply with GAAP.
• Review: Examine transactions and recommend appropriate accruals and deferrals for accurate financial representation.
• Report: Produce monthly financial reports, ensuring timely delivery within the Accounting Department’s calendar deadlines.
• Validate: Scrutinize Balance Sheet and Income Statements for each property to verify account balances and the reasonableness of revenue and expense figures.
• Maintain: Ensure all property and tenant information is current and accurate through careful lease interpretation and cross-referencing against other data.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field, possessing fundamental knowledge of standard and/or fund accounting principles.
• Experience: Two or more years of accounting experience is preferred, with a preference for candidates who have experience within the real estate industry.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; excellent organizational abilities; and meticulous attention to detail and accuracy; proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Bonus: A flexible outlook toward task management and prior experience with MRI software is helpful.
