As a Staff Accountant I, you play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reasonableness of financial statements, narratives, and supporting schedules, which is fundamental to the organization’s ability to build, preserve, and manage program-enriched housing across the country.

• Mission: Owns the full-cycle accounting process to ensure financial statements and reports for assigned entities are accurate and reasonable.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile: Accurately reconcile bank accounts in a timely manner, specifically noting any unusual items outstanding at month-end.
• Research: Perform research on historical accounting transactions and reconcile differences between A/P or A/R modules and the General Ledger.
• Prepare: Create periodic financial statements within assigned time limits and according to accuracy standards, as directed by the Accounting Manager.
• Explain: Develop relevant and current explanations of financial statements in a narrative format for all released reports.
• Report: Prepare financial statement related reports and fulfill reporting requirements from outside agencies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Experience: 1-2 years of accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in spreadsheet and computerized accounting applications, ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form, and self-initiative to problem-solve and prioritize work.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or experience in public or industry accounting.
