Staff Accountant | Potbelly Sandwich Works

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Potbelly Sandwich Works, located in Atlanta, GA. Potbelly Sandwich Works is a nationally recognized neighborhood sandwich shop with over 400 locations across the United States. As a key member of the accounting department, this Staff Accountant role is vital for ensuring the accurate and timely management of utilities for over 300 corporate-owned shops and providing support for leased locations, contributing directly to the company’s financial integrity and operational efficiency.

• Mission: This role ensures accurate and timely accounting for utilities and occupancy costs across corporate-owned and leased shops.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (Advanced), CoStar or other similar real estate portfolio management software (preferred)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Prepare various journal entries and complete detailed account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of period-end closes.
• Performance Analysis: Investigate variances to forecasts and/or budget and communicate these findings during period-end Financial Statement review meetings.
• Utility Management: Assist Potbelly operations with onboarding of utility providers for new shop openings and execute terminations for shop closures.
• Payment Processing: Ensure accurate and timely completion of utility payments through a third-party processor or directly to landlords.
• Occupancy Administration: Process payments to landlords for rent, common area maintenance, real estate taxes, variable rent, and other occupancy charges.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required.
• Experience: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred; prior utility or occupancy experience a plus.
• Skills: Analytical problem-solving ability, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus; experience with CoStar or other similar real estate portfolio management software a plus.
