Staff Accountant | Cain Watters & Associates

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Cain Watters & Associates, a growing CPA firm located in Frisco, TX, specializing in financial planning for national clientele. The Staff Accountant plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records for numerous clients. This position is responsible for extensive financial compilation, including bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and preparing balance sheets and income statements, serving as a crucial first-line participant in the audit process. The role requires the exercise of discretion and independent work in a professional office setting, with remote flexibility once a week or as business needs dictate.

• Mission: Own the accurate compilation of financial data, including comprehensive reconciliations and general ledger maintenance, for multiple clients to support financial reporting, audit processes, and compliance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting & Compilation: Exercise discretion and authority in the preparation of accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to departmental standards, including assisting in the compilation of month-end financials.
• Account Reconciliation & Audit Support: Work independently on monthly and quarterly compilations, performing audit-quality account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including capital projects in progress and miscellaneous revenue accounts, along with bank and credit card accounts, while also performing a crucial first-line role in the audit process.
• Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Apply advanced knowledge to manage and monitor accounting procedures for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, coordinate and facilitate external audit requirements, and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations in the preparation of year-end Forms 1096 & 1099.
• General Ledger & Record Management: Establish records of accounts, input entries into proper accounts, and document proper keeping of financial records utilizing current technologies, including recording journal entries to reconcile balance sheet accounts to supporting documents.
• Client Management & Deliverables: Independently manage financial processes for multiple clients, organizing supporting documents, preparing after-the-fact payroll summaries and journal entries, and ensuring timely financial reports for clients and planning teams to meet all department production goals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in an accounting field.
• Experience: 2-5 years of experience in the accounting field, with multi-client CPA firm experience specifically required.
• Skills: Proficient in both Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to exercise discretion and authority, work independently, and demonstrate a positive team-player attitude.
• Bonus: Experience with Xero accounting software.
