Staff Accountant | American Accounting Association

The Tone:

This position supports an organization dedicated to providing comprehensive accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services to a diverse client base. This includes assisting privately held businesses, not-for-profit organizations, governmental entities, employee benefit plans, and individuals in navigating complex financial landscapes. The Staff Accountant plays a crucial part in delivering essential financial services, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring client success within established firm and accounting guidelines. This role is fundamental to the firm’s mission of providing expert financial support to its varied clientele.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting & Auditing Fieldwork: Perform detailed fieldwork procedures for accounting and auditing engagements, which includes conducting client inquiries, performing analytical reviews, and executing various testing procedures to support audit conclusions.
• Tax Return Preparation: Accurately prepare a variety of federal and state income tax returns, encompassing forms for corporate entities, individuals, partnerships, fiduciaries, trusts, estates, and non-profit organizations.
• Financial Statement and Governmental Filings: Prepare comprehensive financial statements for clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and complete any other necessary governmental filings as required by regulations.
• Foundational Accounting Functions: Execute basic accounting tasks, including precise bookkeeping activities and thorough reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records for clients.
• Professional Growth and Networking: Actively participate in firm-directed Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and hands-on job training to enhance skills, engage in networking events, and contribute to internal projects or committees as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Hold a Bachelor of Science in Accounting or a closely related field, with a basic understanding of core accounting concepts.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and their management, coupled with efficient knowledge of Excel.
• Skills: Strong computer proficiency, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, organizational skills, attention to detail, and integrity when handling confidential information.
• Bonus: A Master of Science in Taxation (MST), Master of Science in Accounting (MSA), or other industry-related graduate degree is preferred, along with 150 relevant credit hours for the CPA Exam and being on a CPA career track.
