Staff Accountant | Tereo Group

The Tone:

The team offers services including day-to-day accounting, CFO support, fiscal operations, and budgeting to help clients gain flexibility and data-driven insights. This role directly supports their mission by ensuring reliable, transparent, and expert financial services strengthen program impact and long-term sustainability. The Staff Accountant is essential for advancing each client’s mission through meticulous financial management.

• Mission: Provide essential accounting and financial reporting support to nonprofit clients, ensuring compliance and contributing to their mission-driven impact.

What You’ll Actually Do
Manage Transactions: Record and reconcile client transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper classification within the general ledger.
Process Financials: Handle accounts payable and receivable operations, contributing to the smooth flow of client financial operations.
Support Closing: Assist with critical month-end and year-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Prepare Reports: Help prepare financial statements, detailed budget reports, and grant-related financial documentation, ensuring adherence to nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls.
Improve Processes: Collaborate with senior finance staff, respond to client inquiries, and contribute to continuous process improvements that enhance overall financial efficiency.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Entry-Level career experience. Possesses a strong foundation in general accounting principles, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Experience: Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets, such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, and Excel. Prior experience with nonprofit accounting practices, fund accounting, and grant reporting is highly beneficial.
• Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify variances, and provide clear, accurate summaries to internal teams and clients. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively in a remote work environment. Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
• Bonus: CPA or progress toward certification is a plus. Prior experience working directly with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven clients is preferred.
