Staff Accountant | West Coast CPA Group

The Tone:

West Coast CPA Group serves families and businesses throughout the greater West Michigan area, providing a full range of accounting services including payroll, bookkeeping, tax planning, financial statement preparation, and business consulting. The Staff Accountant is a detail-oriented and organized individual who will play a vital role in building lasting client relationships and contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment. Your work will directly impact clients by ensuring accuracy and providing essential financial support.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll for multiple clients, including calculating employee wages, overtime, taxes, and other deductions.
• Payment Management: Process electronic payroll payments and direct deposits, ensuring all payroll tax filings and reporting deadlines are met.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare essential financial reports, such as Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss Statements, for various clients.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile financial records including bank accounts and credit card statements to ensure accuracy.
• Client Communication: Communicate directly with clients and their employees to address payroll questions and maintain up-to-date payroll records and direct deposit information.
• Tax Preparation Support: Provide direct support for income tax preparation processes, assisting the accounting team as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Core domain knowledge in payroll processing, general accounting principles, and financial record management.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience. Practical experience with QuickBooks.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills, ability to manage multiple client accounts and deadlines, self-motivation, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Experience preparing individual and/or business tax returns; familiarity with payroll tax compliance and tax preparation software.
