Staff Accountant | Beacon Hill
The Tone:
This is a Staff Accountant role for a nonprofit client of Beacon Hill, located in Hartford, CT, with a hybrid work schedule. The client organization is seeking a dedicated individual to contribute to its daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and critical month-end close activities. This position is integral to maintaining the financial health and operational transparency of the nonprofit, working within a collaborative finance team. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial records and supporting sound financial management practices for the organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Processing: Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Record Keeping: Record cash activity and maintain accurate financial records.
• Reconciliations: Perform account and bank reconciliations.
• Financial Documentation: Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
• Close Support: Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred for this early career Staff Accountant role. Candidates should possess core domain knowledge in accounting principles.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in nonprofit and grant accounting is required. Candidates must also have practical experience performing account reconciliations and contributing to month-end close activities.
• Skills: Essential skills include intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, specifically utilizing VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables. Experience with the NetSuite accounting platform and general Microsoft Excel usage is also a necessary technical skill for this position.
