Staff Accountant | Cornerstone Capital Bank

The Tone:
This is an entry-level, full-time Staff Accountant role at Cornerstone Capital Bank, located in Englewood, CO. • Team: This individual will work closely with members of Servicing Operations teams to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled, and will proactively look for improvements and aid the Assistant Controller and team.
• Mission: This person solves or owns the accurate recording and reconciliation of financial transactions related to mortgage servicing operations.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Record daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries for operational loan activity and escrow transactions.
• Reconciliations: Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and assist the team in clearing any outstanding or aged items.
• Client Invoicing: Prepare monthly client invoices.
• Accounts Payable Support: Assist with accounts payable functions, including vendor invoice processing and month-end accruals.
• Audit Preparation: Work with the team to prepare necessary schedules for external auditors and regulators.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field is required. This is an entry-level opportunity for a professional interested in developing a career within mortgage servicing and financial services.
• Experience: 0-2 years of professional experience in accounting, finance, banking, or a related field. Relevant internship experience that demonstrates practical application of accounting principles is highly valued.
• Skills: Basic understanding of core accounting principles, including debits, credits, reconciliations, and journal entries. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to address financial discrepancies and ensure accuracy. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills are essential for managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, is required for financial analysis and reporting. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary for collaborative work across departments.
• Bonus: Prior experience in mortgage servicing or the broader financial services industry is preferred, though not strictly required. A strong interest in developing a long-term career in accounting within the mortgage servicing sector will be beneficial.
