Staff Accountant | Savers | Value Village

The Tone:
This is an early career role for a Staff Accountant at Savers | Value Village, located in Boise, ID. The company is one of the largest for-profit thrift operators across the United States, Canada, and Australia, dedicated to championing reuse and inspiring a future where secondhand is second nature. Savers supplies its 300+ stores with gently-used items donated through local non-profit partners, redirecting billions of pounds of goods from landfills and providing valuable funding for community programs. This role is vital in the general accounting function, ensuring accurate financial close processes, reconciliations, and compliance for a global retailer with over 22,000 team members.

The TL;DR

• Location: In-person, Boise, ID
• Team: Reports to the Manager of Accounting within the general accounting function.
• Mission: To participate in and ensure the accuracy and compliance of the financial close process, accounts receivable, revenue and cash reconciliations, lease accounting, fixed assets, quarterly reviews, and the annual external audit for a global thrift retailer.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (preferred).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate: Engage in the financial close process, covering accounts receivable functions, revenue and cash reconciliations, lease accounting, and fixed assets management.
• Prepare: Execute monthly close processes, including consolidation and detailed account reconciliations, alongside contributing to monthly reporting and analysis.
• Support: Contribute to comprehensive annual external audits and statutory audit processes, as well as quarterly financial reviews.
• Ensure: Maintain strict compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), overseeing the implementation of new standards and evaluating their impact on business operations.
• Collaborate: Serve as a key business partner to various departments such as finance, payroll, and SEC reporting, while actively identifying, recommending, and implementing accounting process improvements aligned with company objectives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting; an early career professional.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of accounting experience.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and controls/compliance infrastructure; proficient in the application of US and international GAAP; strong Microsoft Excel knowledge.
• Bonus: CPA certification; experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or other ERP systems; process improvement and project management skills.
