What We Look For In a SSAT- Upper Level Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery:
  • Deep knowledge of all SSAT Upper Level sections, including:

  • Skilled at teaching advanced vocabulary strategies, algebraic problem-solving, and critical reading techniques specifically for the Upper Level SSAT.
  • Ability to guide students through complex word analogies, multi-step geometry problems, interpreting both literary and informational passages, and crafting persuasive writing samples.
  • Emphasis on understanding the quarter-point deduction for wrong answers and making strategic guessing decisions to optimize final scores.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
  • Familiarity with SSAT Upper Level content and common challenges, such as sophisticated vocabulary requirements, advanced mathematical concepts, and the specific expectations of the writing sample.
  • Capability to adapt instruction using official SSAT practice materials, vocabulary building programs, and progressive difficulty drills.
  • Support for eighth through eleventh-grade students preparing for admission to competitive independent secondary schools and boarding schools.
• Effective Teaching Methods:
  • Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with.
  • Skill in explaining material using multiple approaches to ensure understanding.
  • Aptitude for adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Communication & Engagement:
  • Strong communication skills.
