Spring 2027 Co-op, SOX PMO | Vertex Pharmaceuticals

The Tone:
This is a full-time co-op position at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a global biotechnology company committed to tackling serious diseases and changing lives for the better. This co-op role offers a critical opportunity to gain meaningful experience within the Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting functional area, serving as a launchpad for your career. You will support the SOX PMO team in ensuring financial reporting, operations, and compliance are efficient and effective.

The TL;DR

• Team: SOX PMO team, supporting control owners across Accounting, Finance, and Human Resources.
• Mission: To assist in evaluating and documenting key control and process changes, support process walkthroughs, and monitor SOX deliverables to foster an appropriate control environment.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite of Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Support the team in conducting process walkthroughs in areas such as Revenue, Inventory, Treasury, SEC Reporting, General Ledger Accounting, and IT Processes.
• Optimize: Optimize the Company’s SOX reporting tool and monitor the status of deliverables provided to internal and external auditors.
• Prepare: Prepare metrics for quarterly management status meetings to track progress and compliance.
• Document: Document key control changes for presentations to senior management, ensuring clear communication of updates.
• Collaborate: Facilitate the collection and review of quarterly control certifications and collaborate cross-functionally with other teams on various ad hoc projects, including system implementations and globalization efforts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in accounting or business.
• Experience: Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – June 2027. Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027. Legal authorization to work in the United States, without requiring sponsorship.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
