Software Engineer Intern, Internal Apps | Neuralink
The Tone:
This is an internship at Neuralink, with compensation based on a California hourly rate. Neuralink is dedicated to creating devices that provide a bi-directional interface with the brain, aiming to restore movement and sight, and revolutionize human interaction with the digital world. This role is crucial for building the centralized data aggregation and analysis platform, directly contributing to the company’s mission by making it significantly more efficient. The team operates with high autonomy and expectations, often requiring long hours to meet clinical demand.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, location not specified (California hourly rate applies)
• Pay: $35 hourly
• Team: The internal apps team functions like an internal startup, building full-stack tools and working closely with diverse teams including neuroscientists and mechanical engineers.
• Mission: To architect and implement elegant software solutions that have an immediate, tangible impact on Neuralink’s mission and make the company 100x faster.
• Tech Stack: Ruby on Rails, React/TypeScript (preferred)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Build Data Platforms: Create systems to collect, organize, and visualize diverse data, including neural signal recordings, device telemetries, surgery recordings, and experimental data.
• Develop Lab Systems Software: Contribute to a digital collaboration hub that supports all internal teams within the company.
• Implement ERP Software: Design applications that orchestrate and track every aspect involved in the design of brain-computer interfaces.
• Enhance DevOps and Infrastructure: Work on solutions to increase overall developer productivity across the organization.
• Collaborate with Teams: Pair directly with engineers and scientists company-wide to understand new workflows and develop appropriate tools.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student interested in architecting and implementing elegant software solutions, comfortable with high autonomy to propose creative approaches to problems.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience shipping a product that has been actively used, regardless of the specific tech stack or domain.
• Skills: Full-stack engineering capability; ability to design and implement simple and elegant software solutions; strong communication and collaborative problem-solving abilities; ownership mentality and comfort with ambiguity; understanding of how software works at a fundamental level.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript; high adaptability and versatility across different tech stacks.
