Software Engineering Intern | Atomic Semi
The Tone:
This is an internship at Atomic Semi, located in San Francisco, CA. Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab by developing their own tools to enable rapid iteration and continuous improvement. This role is integral to an engineering team dedicated to building cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication equipment, exposing interns to highly interesting and complex engineering problems. Interns will have significant ownership and autonomy on mission-critical, interdisciplinary projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Create real-time Linux applications for controlling semiconductor fabrication equipment.
• Build: Develop microcontroller firmware in Rust for fabrication equipment.
• Engineer: Design and implement backend systems for capturing and analyzing semiconductor process data.
• Own: Take significant ownership of mission-critical software projects.
• Implement: Contribute to end-to-end system bring-up of high-performance semiconductor fabrication tools.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical field.
• Experience: Strong low-level systems programming experience with a solid understanding of embedded systems and operating system concepts. Proven microcontroller programming experience, including knowledge of peripherals such as ADC, GPIO, PWM, SPI, and I2C. Experience with end-to-end system bring-up is an ideal fit.
• Skills: Proficiency in Python, C, and C++. Solid understanding of Linux and RTOS.
• Bonus: Familiarity with electronics and feedback control systems. Proficiency in Rust.
