Social Media Intern – Michigan Medicine
Michigan Medicine is seeking a dynamic and creative Social Media Intern to join the Department of Communication’s public relations team. This remote position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to promoting Michigan Medicine’s groundbreaking clinical care, research, news, and innovative education to a global audience through powerful social media channels.
Job Summary
The Social Media Intern will collaborate with public relations and marketing team members to promote Michigan Medicine’s mission by leveraging compelling storytelling, videos, and blogs across various social media platforms. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent social media proficiency, a foundational understanding of social media strategy, adaptability, quick thinking, enthusiasm, and creativity.
Responsibilities
- Develop engaging content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. This content will highlight Michigan Medicine’s clinical care, research, and educational initiatives, aiming to build and expand engagement with patients, families, and individuals seeking authoritative health information.
- Execute community management and monitoring of Michigan Medicine’s social channels under the guidance of the social media strategist.
- Provide analysis of engagement and other relevant social media metrics to inform strategy.
- Collaborate with marketing and public relations team members to share and implement best practices for social channels.
- Participate in live stream video broadcasts as required.
Job Details
- Work Location: Remote, with occasional meetings at the Department of Communication.
- Duration: Limited to mid-May to late August 2026.
- Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with some weekends and evenings required.
- Compensation: $15 per hour.
- Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Social Media Strategist.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a currently enrolled college student.
- Writing samples are required for consideration.
- Must be comfortable operating within a multi-layered organization with complex reporting relationships.
Desired Qualifications
- A background in Communication or social media strategy is preferred.
- Experience with brand management, public relations, or journalism is considered a significant asset.
