Senior Utilities Equity Analyst | Selby Jennings

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at a fundamentally driven investment firm. The firm seeks a Senior Utilities Equity Analyst to join its investment team, covering North American regulated utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy companies, and broader energy transition opportunities. This individual will play a key role in idea generation, fundamental research, financial modeling, and portfolio construction. This position is crucial for enhancing the firm’s investment capabilities in a vital and evolving sector.

• Team: Reports to the PM and works with the broader investment team.
• Mission: To generate high-conviction investment ideas and recommendations across North American utilities, power, and renewable energy sectors.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct deep fundamental research across regulated utilities, power generation, renewable energy, transmission, and energy infrastructure companies.
• Modeling: Build and maintain detailed operating and valuation models, including earnings forecasts, regulatory asset base analysis, DCF, SOTP, and scenario analyses.
• Idea Generation: Develop differentiated investment theses through company meetings, channel checks, industry research, and primary regulatory document analysis.
• Monitoring: Monitor industry catalysts including rate cases, regulatory rulings, FERC proceedings, commodity exposure, capacity markets, power pricing, and capital deployment initiatives.
• Recommendations: Present actionable long and short investment recommendations directly to the Portfolio Manager.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• Experience: 5-15+ years of relevant experience in Utilities Equity Research or Power & Utilities Buy-Side Investing.
• Skills: Strong financial modeling and valuation skills; demonstrated expertise analyzing regulated utilities, power markets, renewable energy, transmission assets, or energy infrastructure; deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, utility economics, capital allocation, and sector-specific drivers; proven ability to generate differentiated investment ideas and communicate recommendations effectively.
• Bonus: Experience interacting with company management teams and institutional investors.
