Senior Project Manager – Surgical Services Operations Support | Mayo Clinic

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mayo Clinic, located in Rochester, Minnesota. As a leading healthcare institution, Mayo Clinic relies on robust operational support for its surgical services. This critical position involves independently planning, directing, coordinating, and delivering major, complex, and business-critical projects from initiation to successful handoff. The Senior Project Manager will lead initiatives of strategic importance at both site and enterprise levels, directly influencing operational efficiency and healthcare delivery.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To plan, direct, coordinate, and deliver major, complex, and business-critical project activities from initiation to customer handoff.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Lifecycle Management: Assume primary, independent responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating, and delivering major, complex, and business-critical project activities through the entire project life cycle, from initiation to customer handoff.
• Strategic Project Leadership: Lead large projects of site- or enterprise-level strategic importance, ensuring completion on time, within budget, and in strict conformance to Mayo Clinic project management methodologies and standards.
• Financial Stewardship: Manage established project budgets, lead and provide direction in their development and tracking, and ensure strict adherence to budget management guidelines for both the assigned department and the institution.
• Independent Problem-Solving: Independently lead problem-solving and decision-making activities within project scope and change management processes, taking reasonable and prudent actions to accomplish agreed-upon project objectives.
• Agile Methodology Implementation: Apply and champion Agile methodologies, monitoring Scrum processes, removing impediments, facilitating team discussions and conflict resolution, and supporting Product Owners in backlog creation and refinement.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience in Project Management and business-related activities, or a Master’s degree with 7 years of experience in Project Management. Education preference includes project management, business administration, Agile/Scrum, or general management.
• Experience: Proven track record of many years managing extensive projects characterized by high to very high risk, complex interdependencies, and significant associated costs, with highly competent implementation of project results.
• Skills: Required active (unexpired) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Demonstrated advanced negotiation skills, strong proficiency in the application of Agile methodologies, including monitoring Scrum processes, coaching teams, and facilitating team efficiency and conflict resolution.
• Bonus: Relevant certifications such as Certified Product Management, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, Risk Management Professional (RMP), and/or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).
