The Tone:
This is a full-time Accounting Analyst role at Walgreens, a leading healthcare and retail company proudly serving nearly 9 million customers and patients daily across approximately 8,500 locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. This position is vital for ensuring the accuracy of financial records and operational expenses, particularly concerning landlord compliance and billing. The analyst will provide expert-level guidance and actively contribute to maintaining financial integrity and efficiency within Walgreens’ extensive operational framework, supporting both internal teams and third-party service providers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Guide & Oversee: Provide expert-level guidance, mentorship, and training to internal team members and third-party service providers, monitoring their work for accuracy and timeliness.
• Evaluate Finances: Accurately evaluate landlord compliance, review invoice reconciliations (e.g., OPEX), and verify landlord ledgers, performing reconciliations for supported areas.
• Resolve Issues: Analyze complex or unresolved billing invoices, research issues and exceptions, and review and approve related payments according to Walgreens’ policies and procedures.
• Ensure Compliance: Audit adherence to contracts, negotiated terms, and applicable regulations, preparing necessary reports to support internal and external audits.
• Improve Processes: Recommend process improvements and may assist in exploring modifications and implementing changes in systems and procedures, performing data mining and root cause analysis.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree OR a High School Diploma/GED combined with at least 3 years of experience in an analytical role within accounting, finance, business management, or auditing.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of analytical experience (or 5 years with a High School Diploma/GED), including providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders, and practical experience in analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, and exceptions for solution development.
• Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., using SUM function, creating charts, sorting data), knowledge of applicable financial regulations, exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, and strong organizational capabilities.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience (or 5 years with GED), the ability to interpret commercial lease clauses, experience with project management, and capacity to clear up payment disputes and defaults with external partners.
