Senior Director, Corporate FP&A | Marqeta

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Marqeta, with a strong preference for candidates based in Oakland, California. Marqeta’s mission is to change how money moves, offering a card issuing platform that provides flexibility and control for companies to issue cards, authorize transactions, and manage payment operations. This role is crucial for transforming and modernizing the company’s financial planning, forecasting, and operating expense functions, with a significant emphasis on automation and elevating financial operations to the standard of a scaled public company.

• Mission: Architect and elevate Marqeta’s company-wide planning, forecasting, and operating expense functions, focusing on automation and modernizing data flows.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transformation: Architect the data flow through FP&A from source systems to the executive view, driving an aggressive automation agenda for recurring reports and processes.
• Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of 3-4 across central planning and business partnership, coaching on modern FP&A practices and setting a clear bar for analytical quality.
• Planning & Forecasting: Build and manage company-wide planning rhythms, including the annual operating plan, long-range plan, quarterly forecast, and monthly close commentary, along with board materials.
• Expense Management: Own end-to-end company-wide operating expense forecasting, including headcount, vendor spend, T&E, and capital expenditure, tying business priorities to investment decisions.
• Strategic Partnership: Serve as a senior finance partner to the CFO, executive team, and functional leaders, contributing to strategic investment decisions and helping leaders manage cost bases.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Math, or similar); CPA or equivalent strongly preferred, MBA welcomed. Progressive FP&A experience at scaled operating companies, including meaningful public-company FP&A experience.
• Experience: 15+ years of progressive FP&A experience and 7+ years managing FP&A teams with a track record of developing talent. Deep corporate FP&A and operating expense expertise, having owned annual planning, long-range planning, and forecasting end-to-end. Proven experience designing data flows through a finance function and deploying AI in an FP&A context.
• Skills: Architecting data streams with automation as a default reflex; AI-fluent with real examples of deployment; deep public-company accounting and GAAP fluency (e.g., stock-based comp, capitalized software); exceptional leadership, teaching, and mentoring abilities; operating as a true business partner to executives and functional leaders; excellent communication skills.
• Bonus: Payments, fintech, or scaled SaaS experience; prior experience leading finance transformation efforts; hands-on experience with Sigma or comparable BI/analytics platforms; public-company experience including investor-facing materials and earnings cycle support.
