The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Microsoft. The Frontier Company Engineering (FDE) team delivers real outcomes for complex organizations by embedding directly within customer teams globally. In this role, you will transform how organizations use data, developing models and running experiments to drive evidence-based decisions with measurable business impact. Your work will apply the latest advancements in AI and data science to solve problems at scale, shipping production-ready solutions rapidly while maintaining high standards of security and trust.

• Pay: $119,800–$261,000 yearly
• Team: Small, multidisciplinary crews alongside engineers, product managers, and domain experts.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Management: Oversee the acquisition of necessary datasets, ensure proper formatting and description, address data gaps, and lead discussions on data ethics and privacy.
• Model Development & Evaluation: Evaluate models using business outcome metrics, recommend improvements, drive best practices for scalable operational models, review analysis, and invent new evaluation methods.
• Strategic Research & Technical Leadership: Research industry trends and technologies to identify strategic opportunities, contribute to thought leadership, write extensible code, and develop expertise in debugging.
• Business & Customer Alignment: Define business, customer, and solution strategy goals, partner with other teams to explore new opportunities, and provide pragmatic customer-oriented solutions.
• Knowledge Sharing & Coaching: Coach engineers and cross-disciplinary partners on data science best practices and scale knowledge within the team.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of data science experience (managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques, reporting results) with a Doctorate, 3 years with a Master’s, or 5 years with a Bachelor’s.
• Skills: Managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques, reporting results, developing operational models at scale, conducting thorough data analysis, writing extensible code, and debugging.
• Bonus: Experience partnering directly with customers or internal stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
