Job Description
Job Title: Scientist (PK/PD)
Location: South San Francisco, CA 94080
Duration: 12 months contract
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientist specializing in Pharmacokinetics (PK) and Pharmacodynamics (PD) to join our dynamic team in South San Francisco, CA. This is a 12-month contract position that offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to preclinical drug development programs. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of PK/PD studies, providing crucial insights into drug behavior and efficacy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preclinical PK/PD Study Support: Provide hands-on practical support for the design, implementation, and oversight of preclinical PK/PD studies, ensuring scientific rigor and adherence to study protocols and timelines.
- PK Data Analysis and Interpretation: Independently perform comprehensive pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) data analysis using industry-standard software (e.g., Phoenix WinNonlin, R, Python, SAS). Interpret nonclinical study results to generate meaningful insights into drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and dose-response relationships.
- Advanced Data Analysis: Demonstrate strong proficiency in various data analysis techniques, including statistical analysis, data visualization, and potentially basic PK/PD modeling, to extract critical information from complex datasets and support data-driven decision-making.
- Bioanalytical Method Familiarity: Possess a foundational understanding and familiarity with common bioanalytical techniques such as Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), Flow Cytometry (FACS), and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). Understand the principles and limitations of these methods to effectively interpret bioanalytical data in the context of PK/PD studies.
- Reporting and Presentation: Prepare high-quality study reports, summaries, and presentations detailing PK/PD findings for internal teams, cross-functional collaborations, and potential regulatory submissions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with various interdisciplinary teams including discovery scientists, toxicologists, and bioanalytical groups to integrate PK/PD data into overall drug development strategies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s (BS) or Master’s (MS) degree in Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Data Science, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Experience: Demonstrated practical experience in supporting and/or executing preclinical PK/PD studies in an industry or academic research setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Proven ability to perform PK data analysis, including non-compartmental analysis (NCA) and potentially compartmental modeling. Proficiency with relevant data analysis software (e.g., Phoenix WinNonlin, R, Python, SAS, or similar) is highly desirable.
- Scientific Acumen: Strong understanding of PK/PD principles and their application in the various stages of drug discovery and development.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex scientific data, methodologies, and conclusions to diverse audiences.
Interview Process:
The interview process for this role will consist of two distinct rounds:
- 1st Round: An initial interview with the Hiring Manager to discuss your experience, technical skills, and cultural fit within the team.
- 2nd Round: A comprehensive panel interview with key team members and stakeholders to delve deeper into your technical expertise and problem-solving abilities.
